The 45 foot Beech trunk was from a large tree felled at Lower Pertwood farm in 1999,  an area of rot at its base making it unsafe standing near a barn. After the rotten area was removed this spring a knot free length of about 17 feet remained, ideal for carving with plenty left for burying in the ground.
